School of Mathematics, Tianjin University was founded in 1946, formerly known as the department of mathematics of School of Science. At the end of 2016, the Department of Mathematics and the Center for Applied Mathematics merged to establish the School of Mathematics.

After the establishment of School of mathematics, the comprehensive strength has made outstanding progress and the social reputation has been continuously improved. In 2019, mathematics and applied mathematics was approved as national first-class discipline and basic discipline enrollment reform pilot in the first batch by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, as well as selected into the national double first-class subject construction project. In 2020, Center for Applied Mathematics, Tianjin University has become one of the first 13 national applied mathematics centers.
