Liu Zhixin’s Advanced Mathematics and Martial Arts

         On September 13, 2017, the first opening ceremony for freshmen was successfully held at the conference hall of the administrative building of Peiyang Park campus after the founding of the School of Mathematics. The academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the Center for Applied Mathematics of Tianjin University, Chen Yongchuan, Dean Sun Xiaotao, Party Secretary Zhao Xin, Associate Dean Shi Guoliang, Associate Dean Liu Na, Vice Party Secretary Pei Jialiang, teacher delegates and all the freshmen of 2017 attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Pei Jialiang.

After playing the national anthem, Dai Song, the adviser of Qiushi Maths Class as the teacher delegate give a speech first. Mr Dai stressed that all the freshmen of 2017 should have a sense of mission for school’s development, at the same time, all students should study hard for professional knowledge, stay curious, overcome difficulties and try their best to show the good behaviors of the School of Mathematics for other people. Ma Xiaoxiao, the new graduate student of 2017 and undergraduate of 2013 as the undergraduate delegate shared her personal experience of undergraduate study with the 2017 freshmen , and she said everyone would undergo the change and growth to find a better themselves, therefore, we should not only be brave but also be cautions for each choice on the beginning of our life road. Cui Yongxing, the undergraduate delegate of 2017 suggested that all the undergraduate freshmen should seem the seniors as their models to pursue more outstanding performance. Dean Sun Xiaotao showed his great expectations to the freshmen of 2017, he hoped that all the freshmen would be able to adapt college life soon and well, would able to become the pride of the school of Mathematics in future. At last, the opening ceremony ended in the singing of school song.

All the freshmen of 2017 attended a two-week orientation after they enter the new campus. In addition, they also listened a series of lectures given by the leaders of the School of Mathematics, as a result, the freshmen have gained some understanding of the spirit and characters of Tianjin University, the development and construction of School of Mathematics, the student rules of Tianjin University and the career planning setting for college students.

Chen Yongchuan, the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences was invited to the mathematic lecture series to give the first class for all the freshmen of 2017. He expounded his view of ‘the heaven, earth and humanity of mathematics’ in humorous words that showed the charming of an excellent mathematician for all the people. Through these lectures and activities, all the freshmen of 2017 have a more comprehensive and in-deep understanding of Tianjin University and the School of Mathematics as well as enhance their self-confidence and belonging sense.
